More than 200 apprenticeships and training places will be up for grabs at tomorrow’s Apprenticeship Fair being organised by Halesowen and Rowley Regis MP James Morris.

Skills Minister Matthew Hancock will be opening the Halesowen & Rowley Regis Apprenticeship and Skills Fair, which will take place between 10am and 3pm at the Zion Christian Centre in Little Cornbow, Halesowen.

The event builds on the success of the Jobs Fair he organised in Rowley last summer, which attracted 700 local jobseekers and had job vacancies and training opportunities from dozens of employers and training providers.

An historic pool at The Leasowes in Halesowen has been restored to its former glory.
Friends of The Leasowes received £5,500 from the Big Lottery Fund Awards For All to restore and replant the pool to increase its wildlife potential.
The heart-shaped pool is part of the landscaping at The Leasowes originally designed by eighteenth century poet William Shenstone.
The pool had become silted up and had very little wildlife value bute the council has now carried out work to dredge the pool and repair all leaks.

A 16-YEAR-OLD WARLEY boy is in a critical condition in hospital today after being assaulted in Halesowen last night (Friday 15 June).

Police were alerted to the incident at around 9.10pm after a member of the public dialled 999 to say they thought there had been a fight and that a man was on the floor with people around him.

Officers were immediately dispatched and found the victim laying unconscious on Cocksheds Lane near to Malt Mill Lane and Olive Lane. They provided first aid until the ambulance service arrived to transport the boy to hospital. 

Kristian Thomas, who was born in Wolverhampton, rose to prominence during the 2008 British-all-round title and was part of the British team that took silver at the 2010 European Championships in Birmingham.

The 22 year old started training at the age of just five and has been a member of the British team since he was ten.

Councillor Tracy Wood, cabinet member for environment and culture, said:

“I would like to congratulate Kristian on being selected to represent his country at the Olympics this year.

“Kristian is a very talented and popular gymnast and I know people from across the Black Country will be cheering him on.”
